MSJ Today is the way we live our lives. It’s the way we conduct ourselves every day, both in the office and in the community. It’s where we give, care, and share. Our firm’s commitment to the community is where the magic and purpose of MSJ Today occurs.
MSJ Today reflects the individuality and creativity of each firm member. It’s our diversity of caring and giving which weaves its way into our firm’s culture. A day in the office affords new opportunities for unique perspective on how to make our community a better place to live, and that’s why Today is just as important as everything else we do the other 364 days. While giving time to our specific causes, we become ambassadors and guardians of our firm’s purpose, which is to make a difference every day. There are so many things we can do to make our communities better. We cannot do it all, but our firm does its part – right now, Today. Many of the firm’s lawyers already hold leadership positions and are involved in local civic, charitable, and political organizations, including Cuban American Scholarship and Aid Foundation, PetSet of Broward County, Voices for Children Foundation, Christopher Columbus High School’s CCNN Advisory Board, and Family Resource Center of South Florida.
The driving force behind MSJ Today is legacy. Not legacy in terms of outcome or results, but difference. How did we make a difference in a person’s life, Today? For us, that’s what it’s all about, especially when it comes to caring and helping others. Because of MSJ Today, there is a community partnership we are building with those needing assistance. In addition to contributing to numerous charitable and nonprofit organizations, our firm shares personal meaningful causes. Each year we select a main MSJ Today cause in which everyone in the office, including family, and friends, can participate.
This year, the firm’s main MSJ Today cause is Castaways Against Cancer. The Castaways are a diverse group from all walks of life. They are made up of teachers, a firefighter, community leaders, stay-at-home dads, geophysical scientists, logistics experts, a financial executive, a lawyer, and celebrity wildlife experts. They live in various parts of Florida, Mississippi and Georgia. Most have roots in South Florida, but all have come together for a common goal.
The mission of the Castaways is twofold: (1) to help find a cure for cancer by raising money each year paddling 160 miles through the Florida Keys for the American Cancer Society in the annual Relay for Life event, and (2) to honor those who have fought the good fight. Since their inaugural voyage in 2004, through donations, Castaways have raised more than $600,000 for the American Cancer Society. Their missions statement is simple, we kayak, you donate and we all pray for a cure.
It’s easy to see how MSJ Today is indeed 365 days a year.
